Armfield designs and sells engineering teaching instruments
used by universities and technical colleges. The range of disciplines is
extensive and includes chemical, mechanical, environmental and civil
engineering and food technology. In addition, Armfield’s range includes
research and development instruments used in the food and drinks sector and the
pharmaceutical and other industries. The educational segment of the business
accounts for approximately three quarters of total sales.
All products are designed by Armfield, manufactured in the
UK and sold worldwide directly, through agents or through Armfield’s US
subsidiary, Armfield Inc.
Armfield was established in Ringwood, Hampshire in 1875 and
started making educational instruments in 1963. It was twice bought by
management, the first time in 1981 and then in 1994 when it was purchased by
Chris Addis and Simon Farrow. Chris and Simon are continuing in their roles as
Managing and Finance Directors respectively following the acquisition of the
company by Judges in January 2015.

Chris Addis, Managing Director
Chris Addis cut his teeth as a Sales Engineer with Armfield in the late 60’s early 70’s before leaving to pursue other opportunities. After a management buy-out at Armfield in 1981 he returned as Sales Manager and then Sales Director, taking up his role as Managing Director when he and Simon Farrow did their own buy-out in 1995.
Working closely with Chris is Finance Director, Simon Farrow, who has 30 year experience at Armfield. In his earlier career he
