UHV Design, founded in 1993, specialises in the design, manufacture and supply of high precision sample heating and manipulation products for use in the high and ultra-high vacuum markets for materials research and production.

Products are sold and supported globally via an extensive distribution network to a diverse customer base including synchrotrons, universities and government laboratories, OEMs (vacuum system integrators) and the semiconductor and industrial markets. 

Applications include sample manipulation and heating for materials deposition and surface analysis techniques.

The company operates from a state-of-the-art facility providing in-house CAD design, high precision machine shop manufacture, UHV standard cleaning facilities and assembly within an ISO 7 clean room.

Trevor Nicholls

Managing Director

Trevor joined UHV Design in August 2016,

He studied electronics at Brighton technical college whilst undertaking an apprenticeship at geotechnical instrumentation company Soil Instruments, followed by 6 years at Eurotherm as a test engineer and then production engineer.

Trevor then spent 26 years working in the world of ionizing radiation measurement and detection. He took up a number of technical sales roles which lead to him to holding positions as Sales and Managing Director within three companies supplying a range of different instrumentation for radiation detection/spectroscopy/medical imaging into academic research, medical and nuclear research/power sectors.

For the two years prior to joining UHV Design Trevor was Group Sales Director for Kromek plc, a market leading manufacturer of solid state and scintillator based sensor technologies for gamma spectrometry and gamma imaging for applications within homeland/aviation security and medical imaging markets.
